A Visit was conducted by Manjula Pradeep in Ariyalur district between 11th and 12th February 2018. Meeting was held with six Dalit lawyers and few NTI alumni both women and men, who highlighted issues relating to atrocities and violence on Dalits and Dalit women. Manjula Pradeep also conducted field visits with two NTI alumni in two villages one where a young Dalit woman named Anitha committed suicide as she could not pass NEET entrance exam, as she dreamt to become a doctor. Her suicide created a momentum in the region as several protests were undertaken in Tamil Nadu to ban NEET exams. A Supreme Court petition was also filed by Tamil Nadu Government. The other village visited by Manjula Pradeep was of Nandini a young Dalit girl, whose naked dead body was found in a canal near her village. Nandini’s case was highlighted in the media, but the accused have not been arrested and even IPC sections relating to rape have not been invoked in the First Information Report (FIR).
