Disaster Response: overcoming discrimination in relief work
People from marginalised communities are often discriminated against during relief work and rehabilitation after natural disasters. Manuski intervenes to help such disaster-affected marginalised people.
After the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, our team conducted relief work in Kutch. Two hostels were started to help earthquake-affected children and youth. Manuski enabled local leaders to run the hostels. A hostel for girls is still functioning in Bhuj, Gujarat.
Tamil Nadu Tsunami
Manuski helped its local activists from Tamil Nadu to set up a long-term rehabilitation project of hostels for tsunami-affected children after the disaster struck in 2004.
Manuski conducted extensive relief work following the Mumbai flood in 2006, extending support to 3000 families in a record time of two days.
