Human Rights Advocacy

The Manuski Trust has worked with different communities on diverse issues since its beginning. It is actively building capacities of individuals and organisations in areas such as:

  • Protection of Human Rights
  • Constitutional rights of the SC/ST, NT-DNT community
  • Prevention of Atrocity Act
  • Schedule Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) Budget Act
  • Right to information (RTI) Act

Additionally, it implements training in the Charity Law and Income tax Act to fulfil statutory requirements. It imparts project management and administration skill training to both NGOs and individuals. This work has been carried out not only in Pune but also throughout Maharashtra and in different pockets in India since 1998. Manuski also conducts workshops on how to conduct baseline surveys, case studies, group and community work, fact-finding reports, and community mobilisation.

Manuski played an important role in publicizing and addressing the Khairlanji atrocity in 2006. It prepared a fact-finding report and disseminated it widely across the country and submitted it to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Since the Khairlanji incident, the Manuski trust has been conducting fact finding reports for atrocities in Maharashtra and other parts of India.

Manuski’s work involves

  • Organising regional meetings in several parts of Maharashtra with Dalit rights activists to obtain information on legal remedies through the use of Right to Information Act, 2005.
  • Establishing fact-finding reports and following up of two important cases annually.
  • Developing a training of trainers (TOT) programme with grassroot level activists.
  • Building alliances with different like-minded organizations at the state, national and international level.
  • Sensitizing civil society and individuals through authentic literature on specific themes.
  • Advocating pressing issues of Dalits and Tribal at the state and national level.
  • Addressing discrimination in relief and rehabilitation during natural calamities.
  • Developing a team of Human Rights Defenders.
